Andy is a Partner in the firm’s Washington, DC office. He has 45 years of counseling, trial and appellate experience for complex litigation matters in both federal and state courts, in the areas of tort and business litigation, insurance coverage and reinsurance, government and civil contracts, fraud and other commercial torts, bad faith, healthcare, and other professional liability and product liability. Andy has been involved recently in a variety of civil litigation matters susceptible to dispositive motions, including professional liability disputes involving architects, engineers, building contractors, and environmental consultants, as well as medical care providers; premises liability and public carrier liability; insurance coverage for construction defects and environmental emissions; and government subcontractor disputes.

Andy has handled appeals involving such diverse subjects as insurance coverage, construction defects, professional liability, and employer liability and contract disputes, including cases that established significant new law regarding mass tort and additional insured insurance coverage, statutory-employer immunity, arbitration procedure, common carrier liability, and standards of care for claims against medical professionals and others involving technical expertise.

  • Representing a general liability insurer for a trucking entity sued as an additional insured in a work-related claim against a waste handling operator by an employer of the trucker.
  • Representing an industrial liability insurer in a matter involving continuous operation of recycling activities that allegedly damaged surrounding business property.
  • Representing a medical liability insurer in a matter involving claims of sexual misconduct.
  • Representing an inner-city hospital at summary judgment and on appeal involving claims that hospital officers defamed a local politician by reporting his threats of retaliation regarding a relative’s bodily injury claim.
  • Representing an quick-service restaurant chain in connection with a violent encounter between late-night customers in an entertainment district, as well as in connection with a patron’s claim that she was entitled to two handrails as she left
    the restaurant with her purchases in one hand.
  • Representing a high-tech government contractor in a suit seeking declaratory judgment against a senior trademark holder who was threatening to enforce an obscure acronym trademark that was widely used by others in various industries.
  • Representing a metropolitan transit authority in appeals involving various freak accidents for which the carrier was allegedly responsible for patron’s safety.
